Planting the Seeds of Change

Across the rolling green hills and fertile plains of Nandi, a quiet revolution is taking place, not just changing landscapes but transforming lives. At ADS North Rift, we believe sustainable agriculture is more than just a practice; it is a movement, a shared commitment to securing livelihoods, enhancing food security, and building resilience in the face of climate change. Through collaboration, innovation, and deep community engagement, we are shaping a future where farmers thrive, families prosper, and the environment flourishes.

Community Mobilization

Every transformation begins with awareness. Over the past year, ADS North Rift has engaged over 921 farmers in community barazas and sensitization meetings, providing them with vital knowledge on sustainable farming practices, agro-ecological technologies and financial literacy. These gatherings are not just about learning; they are about inspiring action, mobilizing entire villages to take ownership of their agricultural future.

Resilience Through Climate Change

With unpredictable weather patterns threatening food production, ADS North Rift has trained 614 farmers in climate risk assessment and adaptation strategies. By introducing techniques such as soil conservation structures, agroforestry, and drought resistant crops, farmers are now equipped with the tools to mitigate climate challenges and protect their harvests.

Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration.

For decades, deforestation and unsustainable land use have stripped the soil of its fertility. But through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), the land is coming back to life. Over 976 farmers have adopted FMNR techniques, allowing native vegetation to regenerate naturally. From reintroducing indigenous tree species to implementing grass strip structures, communities are reviving their lands while securing better harvests for the future.

Demonstration Farms

The best way to learn is by seeing. Through 32 demonstration farms across the region, ADS North Rift is providing hands-on training to farmers, showing them how to implement agro-ecological practices, organic farming, and integrated pest management. These farms serve as living classrooms, inspiring thousands of farmers to embrace sustainable techniques that improve yields while preserving the environment.

Women & Youth in Agriculture

Agriculture is no longer just a means of survival; it is a gateway to empowerment. ADS North Rift is championing the inclusion of women and youth in agribusiness, equipping them with skills in kitchen gardening, poultry farming, and value addition. Women like Mrs. Marcella Jeptoo, who started a thriving sweet potato farm, are proving that agriculture is a powerful tool for economic independence and community development.
