Across the North Rift, young people face unique challenges in accessing financial resources to support their farming and entrepreneurial ventures. Traditional financial institutions often require collateral, credit history, or large deposits that many youth do not have. To bridge this gap, ADS North Rift has been championing Community-Based Microfinance (CBM) as a sustainable and inclusive solution.

ADS North Rift has officially launched a new initiative, the Empowering Resilience through Youth and Women-Led Action for Sustainable Drought Preparedness (ERYWAS) Project, with an inception meeting held at Riamakori Hotel, Turkana County. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to set the pace for a project that places youth and women at the heart of climate adaptation.

In Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties, women are rewriting the story of resilience. Through the Food Security and Climate Change Adaptation (FOSECCA) project, they are learning new skills, building businesses, and adopting sustainable farming practices. Their stories show that when women are empowered, entire communities begin to thrive.

On the green hills of Tindiret, Nandi County, a small farm is quietly making a big impact. Here, amidst rows of thriving crops and the gentle rustle of Nappier grass, you’ll find Mr. John Keino, a farmer who has turned his land into a model of productivity and sustainability. As a member of the Ngatipkong Farmers Group and participant in the Food Security and Climate Change Adaptation (FOSECCA) Project, Mr. Keino has embraced innovative farming methods that not only feed his family but also inspire his community to think differently about agriculture.

Farming is more than planting seeds and waiting for rain. It’s about making smart choices that give you a better harvest, more income, and a healthy family. One of the best ways to do this is through crop diversification, growing different crops instead of depending on just one.

In Elgeyo Marakwet County, sustainable farming practices are transforming lives and improving livelihoods. Through the FOSECCA Project, members of Kipsumbeiwo Self Help Group have embraced climate-smart agriculture to grow green grams, turning small demo plots into a major source of food security and income.

In the dynamic world of agriculture, knowledge isn’t just power, it’s a pathway to transformation. Across Kenya’s North Rift region, farmers are proving that the most effective learning often comes not from lecture halls, but from walking in each other’s shoes. That’s the heartbeat of exchange learning: empowering farmers to teach, share, and learn from one another.

In the hills of Elgeyo Marakwet County, a quiet but powerful transformation is taking root. At the heart of this change is Kipsumbeiywo Tree Nursery, a thriving demonstration farm supported through the FOSECCA (Food Security and Climate Change Adaptation) project by ADS North Rift.

In a bold step to improve animal health and household food security, the County Directorate of Veterinary Services, Turkana County in partnership with ADS North Rift, expanded its livestock vaccination and treatment campaign to the remote pastoralist areas of Katilu and Lokichar.
